Recently, new Netflix documentary series, ‘How To Change Your Mind’ has been causing quite the stir across social media. The four-part series follows author Michael Pollan, who is well-known for covering topics where nature and culture collide, as he researches and explores the history of psychedelic drugs including; LSD, Psilocybin, MDMA and Mescaline

With more talk surrounding the positive effects of certain psychedelics on chronic brain conditions such as anxiety, depression and even dementia and alzheimers, people are understandably becoming curious about the effects of the various chemicals on human existence.

On Wednesday 31st August, Seed Talks is hosting an evening at Friends’ Meeting House that will see Dr David Luke, an Associate Professor of Psychology at The University of Greenwich, dive into his research that focuses predominantly on transpersonal experiences, anomalous phenomena and altered states of consciousness, especially through the use of psychedelics.

Taking place from 7pm – 9.30pm, the talk looks at Western scientific research from the past 100 years that introduces the science behind some of the substances. You will be then be guided through the science of these traditional psychedelics along with their modern counterparts that were first synthesised in the 20th century.

Dr. Luke will also touch upon the positive and negative mental health implications of these drugs, as well as what they reveal about the complex side of human consciousness and what can be interpreted from the traditional shamanic practices often attributed to them.

Dr Luke has posted over 100 papers exploring the complexities surrounding psychedelic drugs. When the professor is taking a break from running clinical drug trials with LSD, conducting DMT field experiments or observing apparent weather control with Mexican shamans he directs the Ecology, Cosmos and Consciousness salon and is a cofounder and director of Breaking Convention: International Conference on Psychedelic Consciousness.

Doors open at 7pm, and the talk will begin at 7.30pm with a Q&A taking place afterwards.
