Held in Cathedral Gardens, the FREE event was Yoko’s vision for thousands of voices and an orchestra of bells to come together to ring and sing out for peace.

Thousands of people turned up to send a message of peace and unity to the world, as well as help open Manchester International Festival’s spectacular programme of arts, theatre, live music and performance over the next 18 days.

The atmosphere was electric as Yoko, appearing on the big screens, set out her vision for peace – inviting the crowd to talk to each other, contemplate and finally – ring the living daylights out of those bells.

‘Come and send a message of peace to the world. The beauty of this piece will break the sky and more. Ring for peace! PEACE is POWER! I love you all.’ – Yoko Ono
