Like most people the thought of getting repeatedly punched in the face by someone isn’t exactly up there on my bucket list. Not even getting a sly dig in the kidneys off a bloke on a dancefloor is in there – in fact, can we all just agree that I don’t want to be punched please?

But there are some people who do.

They have been training for months to get into the ring this Tuesday 9th April at the Fairfield Social Club for the IBE ‘War of the Roses’ – a charity boxing event which pits the people of Manchester against long-time rivals Leeds.

It’s not just any old bloke of the street though. IBE stands for ‘Industry Boxing Events’ and so the people getting involved all work in the bars and restaurants of the two cities – adding another dimension to what’s on stake on the night.

The IBE gang have been putting on these charity nights for a while now, mostly in Leeds but last year saw them host a Manchester event over at Victoria Baths and they’ve so far raised a whopping £32,000 for various charities around the country.

With the doors opening at 6pm, you can expect 8 fights – all featuring the best and brightest from both cities either side of the Pennines.

Representatives from favourites such as Crazy Pedro’s, Manchester Hall and Junkyard Golf will be fighting – so head on down and cheer them on!
