This weekend sees a rather special event taking place at Sankeys in Ancoats, with one of the most respected and revered DJs in the business making a very rare appearance. Buzzing.
It’s one of those names you don’t see knocking about very often these days. And that’s not just because of his (failed) attempt at ‘resigning’ from the game a couple of years back, which proved, if nothing else, that some people really do have beats running through their bloodstream.
Digressions aside, Danny Tenaglia is a bona fide house, progressive and techno legend. Known for his seamless handiwork in the booth and refined track selections, the fact he’s down to play for no less than six hours to mark the return of Tribal Sessions at the now-20-year-old Sankeys this Friday, 22nd August, has us very excited indeed.
Once a regular at the venue, this will be the first time he has descended on our home city for seven years, adding to the reasons why this is definitely one event not to be missed. As a complete aside, we’ve also been lucky enough to hear first hand the might and relentless drive that defines the forthcoming mix album compiled by the man in question, Balance 024– arriving 15th September, it’s definitely a must buy if you like four four rhythms served up properly. And by that we mean with grit, muscle, and plenty of weird noises thrown in for good measure.
Further down the line and Sankeys has also revealed its first line ups for the impending autumn, kicking off on Friday 12th September with Martinez Brothers, Darius Syrossian and Jozef, while Mute v MVSON play Spektrum upstairs. This will be followed by events featuring the likes of Axel Boman, Shlomi Aber, Steve Lawler, Cassy, Nick Curly, Sasha, DJ Sneak, Apollonia and Guti. Needless to say, that’s a lot to take in, so we’ve gone to the trouble of listing everything below, although it’s probably wise to concentrate on this coming weekend for now, what with Mr. Tenaglia’s return to the Manchester scene deserving of real celebrations- hence us embedding a taster of him at the funkier end of his scale, courtesy of Boiler Room. Better yet, you don’t have to endure all the awkward people trying to dance while looking cool these videos usually come with. Meanwhile, we’ve also included a mix of his tougher stuff via Elektrik Zoo, the combination of both being what we expect from the marathon show this weekend.
