Another weekend; another storming offering of electronica from Sankeys.

The dual offering this week centres on a pair of line-ups that clutch Sankeys’ fist pumping euphoria of a Friday alongside the more dexterous manoeuvres of a Saturday; the latter boosted by the appearance of Ibizan loons and Balearic beats from Zoo project.

Topping Friday’s bill is none other than Swedish house titan John Dahlback, the man with two era-defining record labels to his name (Pickadoll and the recently established Mutants) and a litany of previous Sankeys’ showcases. The reason for his continued unerring success at the club? It’s a DJing prowess that can raid the more immediate facets of the modern dancefloor alongside an experimental edge, adding an unpredictable zest to his expert commandeering of a main room. Expect fireworks from this titan.

Support comes in the shape of Faithless chanteuse Sister Bliss. As one third of one of the most influential dance music groups of all time (Mixmag recently proclaimed them the fourth greatest live act of all time), her DJ sets have been hits across the globe for the best part of twenty years. Juan Kidd’s tough as nails electro also makes an appearance alongside resident DJ the Dutch Rudder.

24 hours later and it’s time for the Zoo to come in. Ibiza’s undoubted success story of the last five years, the Zoo Project have made the island fun again, partying in the outdoors and reclaiming the free-spirited approach that made Ibizan partying so intense and beautiful. Beach parties, raves in caves and of course reclaiming the infamous ‘zoo’ as a dancefloor space, they’ve revitalised partying in the Balearics and bring their Channel Zoo tour to Ancoats.

The talent includes Yaya, the Afro-Italian stallion who brings the deep free spirited approach from his family roots in Benin to pulsating European house and techno. Shaun Reeves also makes an appearance, one quarter of uber-dj troupe Visionquest and one of the most heralded DJs of modern times. Support comes from Mikey James and Evan Baggs.
