Sankeys round off what has been their most impressive year to date. In the elite pantheon of the world’s best clubs, the Manchester-based rave den has continued to evolve through 2011, including for the first time setting up Sankeys in Ibiza with great success and with plans for a second club launch in New York.
The ethos remains simple – to bring in the finest DJs and live acts across the vibrant electronic spectrum, ushering in news names to the city whilst also bringing back a few old friends and faces, criss-crossing genres week in, week out. Across three rooms the club offers incredible dynamism and verve, remaining a place rich in inspiration, fun and cutting-edge music all night long. Having last year won DJ Mag’s immense World’s Best Club accolade, the story at Sankeys carries on, as its new era continues to blossom in the annals of dance music’s rich history.
So the final show of 2011 has to be something special, and it’s only apt, really, that’s it Heidi’s The Jackathon. One of the club’s most revered residencies, Heidi’s world-touring brand has set up home at Sankeys and set the template for all night sessions. Bringing one of the best female spinners back to the club to preside over it all is exactly what NYE needs, augmented by some of the year’s brightest names also in attendance; Maceo Plex performs live, having released on some of the world’s best underground labels including Treibstoff, Dumb Unit, Cocoon, Audiomatique, Modern Love, Mothership as well as playing some of the best clubs such as Rex, Cocoon, Fabric, Womb. Dutch techno spinner Lauhaus also guests, along with super-hot producer Subb-an, Leftfoot’s Matt Tolfrey – fresh from the labels’ 5th birthday celebrations earlier in the year – and Sankeys regular Darius Syrossian. Sankeys’ own Ellesse also stars; architect of Kaluki’s now weekly residency at the club after a brilliant and epoch-shifting summer, Ellesse’s vision and drive has helped shaped the club and he is a rather good DJ to boot.
