George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic
Saturday 7th July 2018- Manchester Academy
Recording both as Parliament and Funkadelic, George Clinton revolutionized R&B during the ’70s, twisting soul music into funk by adding influences from several late-’60s acid heroes such as Sly Stone & Jimi Hendrix and elevating funk music to another level.
Parliament & Funkadelic have recorded genre-defining songs for over 50 years under the stewardship of George Clinton such as ‘Flashlight’, ‘One Nation Under a Groove’, ‘(Not Just) Knee Deep’, ‘Atomic Dog’, ‘Up For The Down Stroke’, ‘Aqua Boogie’, ‘Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On’, ‘P-Funk ( Wants To Get Funked Up)’, ‘Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow’ and many more.
George Clinton continues his mark on contemporary music today, most recently winning his first-ever Grammy Award in 2016 for his work on Kendrick Lamar’s ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’.
