Having already hosted a sell-out East India Youth show and a unique 10th Anniversary iLiKETRAiNS performance this year, Grey Lantern’s May schedule is looking no less special. Bookended with two big collaborations with Wotgodforgot, our May schedule takes in old friends and new, with Hookworms, ZZZ’s, Her Name Is Calla and Satelliti among those coming to Manchester in the upcoming month.

Kicking off this weekend (May 4th), we’re delighted to be involved with Salford’s independently-run, multi-venue crawl, Sounds From The Other City. We’re teaming up with wotgodforgot to hold quarter at the The Pint Pot, where we welcome – among others – the Savages and Thurston Moore-lauded ZZZ’s from Japan, post-punk trio Las Kellies from Argentina, and a brilliant local bill including SWAYS Records’ Kult Country.

Two days later (May 6th) we welcoming back Her Name Is Calla, following their rousing slot in support of iLiKETRAiNS in February. The post-rock five-piece have a stunning new album out on Function Records, Navigator, and tour in support of it; playing as well we have Charlie Barnes – with full band in tow – and Ghosting’s Season’s Gavin Miller with one of his very first solo live sets.

May 16th sees Human Hair make the trip up from London to play Fallow Cafe. The group – comprised of former and current members of Lovvers, Throats and Dignan Porch, among others – are finally ready with their debut LP, My Life Is A Beast And Lowly Form, after nearly seven years tearing up stages with their frenzied garage rock. On May 29th a twin-assault of rhythmic hynoptism makes its way to Gullivers, with the Battled-esque Italian duo Satelliti – recently confirmed for Liverpool Psych Fest in September – co-headlining with morph-suited Liverpool electro-noise oddities Barberos.

Then, finally, on May 30th and May 31st we’re thrilled to be putting on firm Grey Lantern favourites Hookworms for a two-night headlining residency at Islington Mill. The Leeds-based five-piece’s visceral debut LP Pearl Mystic was all over the music press last year – including winning Drowned In Sound’s Album of the Year – and, as well as playing new material from their forthcoming second album, the group have picked a host of their favourite bands to join them over two days, including Mazes, Novella, Cold Pumas and more…

Beyond May there are album launch shows for Shield Patterns and Douga, and Border Community’s Luke Abbott will also be playing his sole northern show in support of his new record Wysing Forest.
