Hulme comes to life this summer with the first full scale Hulme Festival! Set across 5 sites and 3 areas from Hulme Park’s main stage to a big chill-out tent, the festival is a community focused celebration bringing together people and businesses from the area’s diverse communities and cultures to celebrate the heritage found in Hulme. Zion Arts Centre will be throwing itself into the festive spirit by hosting a 1940s Street Party out in Hulme Park for anyone to attend. The Street Party marks another of Zion Arts Centre’s centenary events; celebrating its rich history in a decade by decade countdown culminating in a grand finale production in October.

Zion Arts Centre will transform the park into a true 1940s celebration complete with bunting, period costumes, marquees, cake and jelly and most exciting of all – a live band brought to you by the Swing Commanders! This hugely talented, high-energy Manchester sextet has wowed listeners and dancers alike through its unique presentation of some of the finest music from the 30s, 40s and 50s, with its array of six specialist musicians, five solo voices and as for instruments – well, we will leave you to count for yourself! Other 1940s activities will include traditional ‘Head through the hole’ photo-booths, buffet tables and plenty of jiving!

Zion Arts will be present throughout the rest of the festival with our in house youth talent performing on the youth stage from 2.30-4pm. Sat’dy All Sorts perform their own style of hiphop and our Zion Young Performers perform songs from their upcoming production of Little Shop of Horrors. There will also be appearances from capoeira group ACCA and Zion’s street-dancers. Zion will also be opening its bar and will be serving tea, coffee and alcohol from 12pm until midnight.
