In the traditional month of love, Sankeys are dishing out plenty of the heart-warming stuff during February. With brand new nights Recentes and Sankeys Fiesta taking hold through the programming in the coming weeks, the club’s new direction sees some bold bookings and old friends rocking up to Ancoats. For a club where evolution runs through its veins, Recentes and Fiesta are indicative of Sankeys’ continued progression in global dance music culture. First up on Friday February 1^st, a true Sankeys legend returns: Laidback Luke. Both the hero of Manchester and Liverpool’s adoring crowds, Luke always draws a frenetic audience to revel in his pounding house sounds. Oliver Twizt, Juan Kidd and The Dutch Rudder all star too. Then Sat 2^nd sees Treehouse teaming up with Leeds-based promoters La Loop to present techno master David Moufang aka Move D, a true pioneer of electronic music. He’s released on labels including Warp, Reflective, Compost’s Black Label and of course on his own imprint Source. Motor City’s native and techno taste-maker Mike Huckaby also stars, with Brawther, Agnes and Us & Them all supporting. The first Recentes of the month on Fri 8^th February sees the brand new night teaming up with Just Skank to bring drum and bass proponents Brookes Brothers to Sankeys. The south coast’s Funtcase supports, bringing his brutal dupstep sound to the club, with DJ Sly Trigga and Bassman playing too. The next night second Sankeys Fiesta follows, bringing back Shonky – one third of Apollonia, who rocked Boxing Day at Sankeys – playing back to back with fellow Frenchman Seuil. Germany’s Maayan Nidam brings her groove-infused house to Sankeys too. With his recent Boiler Room and xlr8r mixes garnering great acclaim, Hypercolour’s Tom Demac is a brilliant talent making his Sankeys debut. H2, Bleak (live), Cuthead and Jozef K all star. Friday 15^th sees Goodgreef back at Sankeys with totemic trance star Paul Oakenfold at the helm, which is followed by the second Fiesta of the month with house and techno legend Marco Carola on Saturday 16th. Leon, Darius Syrossian and Jozef K are all in The Basement too. Upstairs in Spektrum, iconic Credit To The Edit spinner Greg Wilson is joined by Us & Them and Daniel Dalton. The final weekend of February sees Recentes vs Take The Whole Cake on Fri 22^nd. Spanning dubstep to house, headliner Mosca epitomises the raw creativity and energy the UK is currently producing. From remixing T Williams, Foals and Four Tet, the Radio 1 In New DJs We Trust is a scintillating talent who will raise the bar even further at Recentes. House and garage don MJ Cole also stars, with Waze & Odyssey, Loefah, Hackman and MC Chunky all crowning a huge show. Then Sankeys Fiesta signs off the month with a quintet of guests. Headliner Marc Houle spans across Chicago and Detroit’s sound spectrums, whilst Romanian born and Berlin based Cosmin TRG is a 50 Weapons regular and an essential electronic figure in the scene right now. Swiss icon Ripperton spins the melodic side of house and Techno, an electronic music chameleon who has remixed everyone from Laurent Garnier, Beanfield, Steve Lawler to Radiohead. There’s also veteran Rick Wade and Swiss star Washerman. Support comes in the guise of Us & Them, Jozef K, Angus & Perry, Daniel Sanders and Freeman and Farrelly.
