Crowning what has been its most formative year yet, Sankeys brings 2012 to a close – and opens up its 2013 account – with, for the first time, two NYE parties.
Taking place both in Manchester and Ibiza, the club this summer has celebrated its momentous 18th anniversary in the UK and heralded the continuation of a new adventure on the White Isle. And it is one which has proved hugely successful. After two seasons in Ibiza, Sankeys has placed itself as the island’s true success story, further augmenting its status as a truly global bastion of the electronic underground. By partly mirroring Manchester’s immense success, and adding some uniquely European magic to the project, David Vincent’s vision has evolved.
Sankeys ends 2012 with two huge shows, showcasing why the club remains an iconic cultural foundation for dance music all over the world
The club’s founder says that: “Our second season in Ibiza has been fantastic. I feel we have really come into our own in 2012, not only bringing a taste of our underground ethos from Manchester to here, but also to create something entirely new. We’ve had some great residencies, especially from Solomun’s Neon Nights and Steve Lawler’s parties, as well as our own Carnival parties, Enzo Siragusa’s wild Fuse parties and occasional shows from Bugged Out!, Krankbrother, Mulletover and loads more through the season.” David goes on to say, “To me, it feels like people have really “got it” – or got us – and what we are all about, from the island’s workers to clubbers from all over the world. We have brought the spirit of Manchester here. It’s been masses of hard work, and I can safely say this year has really put on the map in Ibiza, so from me it’s a huge thanks to everyone who has been involved. And it’s felt right to keep the party going here every Saturday through the autumn, and then we couldn’t resist doing our first ever NYE party here too, starring Tobi Neumann and some of our residents. Over in Manchester for NYE, we have got a brilliant party lined up with some of our favourite guests. I am massive fans of The Martinez Brothers, and in Phil Weeks and Richy Ahmed we have got two house music masters.”
So Sankeys ends 2012 with two huge shows, showcasing why the club remains an iconic cultural foundation for dance music all over the world. In Manchester, Sankeys were arguably the first club in this country to really invest time in two young house music DJs from New York City who have become global stars; The Martinez Brothers, along with electronica’s understated royalty in the forms of Richy Ahmed and Phil Weeks. Sankeys’ own Jozef K supports, with more TBC.
And over in Ibiza, legendary German spinner and producer Tobi Neumann returns after several slots in Playa d’en Bossa. Ibiza residents BONES, Luis Groove and Jonathan Tena all support, with more guests TBC.
