“Cosy and inviting, with vibrant colours and traditional Indian decor. The aroma of freshly cooked spice and herbs fills the air, making you feel like you’re in the heart of Mumbai.” The mother-daughter team behind Cheadle’s Aamchi Mumbai certainly know how to set a scene, and the description of their restaurant speaks volumes about how passionate they are. Renowned for its flavourful curries, and friendly, attentive service, many customers come here just for the street food options, so let’s start there.

Masala dosas, samosa chaat, vada pav, pav bhaji, bhel puri and chilly paneer are among the options at Aamchi Mumbai. As are veg manchurian, aloo chilli, and aloo tikka. Meanwhile, chicken tandoori, chicken malai tikka, and fish haryali feature in the tandoor section, if you prefer something smoking to start. Alternatively, skip to the mains, where you’ll find a selection of sizzlers (chicken, prawn, paneer). Beyond this, there’s an extensive range of full curries, such as chicken saagwala and malawi, goan fish curry, and, for non-meat eaters, chana masala, and paneer jalfrezi. Other vegetarian dishes include aloo gobi (potatoes and cauliflower in dry seasoning), baingan bharta (aubergines roasted in the tandoor), and bhindi masala (okra with aromatic sauce).

The choice doesn’t end there at Aamchi Mumbai. Masala poppadums with chutneys, onion bhaji, various samosas, the chaat platter, seekh kebabs, chicken lollipop, prawn kholiwada and lamb chops. Bhunas, biryanis, and the inimitable chilli cheese naan and railway chicken curry. A range of traditional homemade desserts complete the package — gulab jamun, kulfi, ras-malai, and definitely don’t miss the sizzling brownie. Indian beers, imported wines, Mumbai coffee and masala chai are highlights on the drinks menu, which also includes lassi, juices, cocktails and mocktails. Last but not least, limitless lunch runs Saturday and Sunday, 12-3PM, and Aamchi Mumbai hosts free Mehndi events, live music, BYOB Tuesdays and more.
