Situated within Debenhams homeware floor, this unique concession will exhibit a curated selection of locally made, handcrafted goods including artwork, jewellery, Manchester souvenirs, ceramics, candles and gifts along with a range of handmade items for dogs such as dog treats, dog clothing, accessories and grooming products.
Curated Makers is the brainchild of entrepreneur Megan Jones, 28, who created the brand to give small independent makers a platform to showcase products within prime retail spaces. After working in digital marketing for the likes of ASOS and Boohoo, Jones spotted a niche in the market for helping smaller brands and independent creatives grow through collaborative retail and third party relationships, and Curated Makers was born.
Speaking of the inspiration for her move, Jones said: “Small businesses never usually get the opportunity to exhibit in large retail stores due to a lack of brand awareness and high costs but by doing this as a collective, the risk is split and the success is shared and together we have more impact.’
Starting just last year trading on artisan markets with only a handful of brands, Curated Makers has grown exponentially securing prime retail space in Debenhams to feature a collective of local craft and homeware indies, hand-selected by Jones for the quality and uniqueness of their one-off products.
“The beauty in the concept is not only are we are bringing back business to the high street, we are celebrating the talents of local creatives at the same time. All of our products are locally crafted and hand-made as oppose to mass produced pieces, and so by purchasing them you directly impact the lives of regional makers.
The next step for Curated Makers will be to secure further prime retail space in the run-up to Christmas, hosting artisan pop-ups with a wider curation of products which in turn allows us to support and champion more small indies”
The Curated Makers’s pop-up shop is situated on the third floor of Debenhams, Market
Street on the Homewares Floor and will run from Monday 23rd July to Sunday 5th August,
Monday – Saturday 9-8pm, Sunday 11-5pm.
