I love Manchester but there are moments (albeit just a few) where I want to escape the hustle and bustle of the City Centre and find a secret haven to relax and recharge. Having heard numerous recommendations from friends about Titanic Spa I thought I’d see what all the fuss was about and booked a girly overnight stay with my Mum as an early Mothers Day treat!
Tucked away within the beautiful rolling hills of the Pennines in West Yorkshire, Titanic Spa is housed in a traditional textile mill built in 1911, the same year as the passenger liner, RMS Titanic (hence the name). It combines a stylish modern design with the latest spa facilities and it is the UK’s first Eco-Spa.
We opted to try out their Like Mother Like Daughter package, which includes as overnight stay in one of their stylish apartments, lunch, 2 course evening meal, full use of spa facilities including their Heat and Ice Experience and 2 treatments each.
At Titanic Spa there’s no need to wait until you check in at 2pm to use the facilities – we could arrive from as early as 10.30am which meant we could have all day to make use of the peaceful surroundings and indulge. From the moment we put on our bathrobe and slippers we were treated to a five star service and a zen atmosphere.
Like kids in a sweet shop we didn’t know what to indulge in first, finally settling on trying out their extensive heat and ice experience area which is based on the ritual of bathing where the body is heated and then cooled by a series of experiences with the ultimate aim of inducing deep relaxation. I braved the ice cold plunge pool, although my Mum opted for the more soothing (and sensible) tropical rainshower to cool her down.
After a sumptuous but healthy lunch our duo of treatments commenced-Mum was to enjoy a Decleor Expert Facial and Cocoon Body Wrap whilst I was to sample the delights of the Elemis Brilliance Facial and Frangipani Body Nourish Wrap. It was perfect having the treatments at the same time as it meant we could then meet up afterwards and chat about our experiences without having to wait for the other to finish up. If you want something that will truly make you switch off and de stress I can recommend the Elemis Brilliance Facial as it also includes a scalp, neck and shoulder and hand massage along with making your face supple and radiant.
Whether you want to dress up or stay in your robes evenings at Titanic make you feel completely at ease-Mum and I chose to stay make–up free and slipperbound as we made our way to the restaurant and devoured Tempura Steak and Oriental Duck with noodles to wind up the day.
Titanic Spa is a place you can visit for the day or overnight but for us being able to stay over was the icing on the cake. It gave us the opportunity to go back to the apartment and relax further, taking time out on the balcony overlooking the stunning hillside view.
Titanic Spa recently won the UK’s Best Regional Spa at The Good Spa Guide Awards and it is clear to see why it is such a hit with everyone who goes through it’s doors. Make sure you leave your mobile at home and enjoy every minute of your stay-like me and my Mum, you won’t want to leave!
