The Independent Centre for Actor Training (ICAT) is an independent drama school and artist development centre located on Newton Street in the NQ. They are due to hold a morning of free workshops in June to give those wishing to undertake professional actor training an opportunity to sample their teaching for free.

If you’re an aspiring actor or performer, looking to take you acting career to the next level and make a career from it, then the free workshop aims to expose you to the distinctive techniques and methods which will help you on your way.

The open day will consist of an overview of what makes the school unique; introducing prospective students to the the principles upon which ICAT is founded. Moving on from that the workshop will then touch on three important aspects of study; introductory sessions in Laban Movement, a guide to Best Vocal Practice and finally, Action and Impulse. The workshop will end with a Q&A with ICAT’s core artistic team.

Following the morning of free workshops there will be an opportunity to audition for ICAT’s pioneering two year course. Auditions take place in a group workshop setting, breaking from the intimidating format employed by many drama schools. Applicants are asked to prepare a 2 minute monologue of their choosing.
