Selfridges’ Celebration Of The Magic Of The Malt Announced
This week will see Selfridges’ Manchester and Trafford Centre stores kick off Whisky Month – a celebration of the Malt through a range of whisky-inspired events, special tastings and workshops.
Running until June 18th, and with many sessions free, Selfridges’ Whisky Month will set out to introduce the ‘magic of the malt’ to customers curious to discover the fascinating world of whisky for the first time.
And for those possessing a more experienced palette, Selfridges has programmed a range of masterclasses and expert-led tutored tastings for whisky aficionados who wish to extend their knowledge.
From Jura to Japan, English malts to elegant Highland blends, cheese parings to cocktail mixing – Selfridges’ Whisky Month will showcase, celebrate and explore every dimension of whisky culture. So why not drop by this June and join Selfridges in a toast to the wonders of whisky?

Be Beside The Speyside
A Malt Masterclass With Ian Murray
Thursday 9th June, 4.00pm – 8.00pm
Dufftown in the heart of Speyside is the home of the iconic Glenfiddich and Balvenie whiskies which are highly acclaimed by whisky experts and connoisseurs alike. The Balvenie is one of only a few that still has its own floor maltings and cooperage, while Glenfiddich (the world’s best selling single malt) is the only Highland or Speyside Scotch whisky to be distilled, matured and bottled at a single distillery. First Drink’s Ian Murray will be hosting this very special event, delving deep into the processes that make both these great whiskies and treating you to some great drams along the way. Tickets (available from the Wine Department) are £15, with £10 redeemable on any purchase made on the night.
Ardbeg and Cheese Pairing

Ardbeg is known for its rich, peated and full bodied whiskies. Selfridges will set to out to match a range of Ardberg malts with a selection of cheeses that complement the complex flavours of these superb malts.
Discovering Compass Box
Saturday 11th June, 12.00pm – 5.00pm
Compass Box are a specialist Scotch Whisky maker renowned for making very high quality, award winning Scotch whiskies, in a variety of styles, which appeal to a variety of tastes. Sunday 12th June, 12.00pm – 5.00pm
Monkey Shoulder uses only malt Scotch whisky from three of Speyside’s finest distilleries, creating a triple malt that is catching the attention of the country’s leading bartenders for its smooth and rich qualities. Do More With Dalmore
Wednesday 15th June, 4.00pm – 8.00pm
The Dalmore Distillery has been producing exceptional single malt whisky since 1839. Scott Lyth, from Dalmore’s parent company Whyte and Mackay, will be in store to demonstrate how Dalmore can make a great cocktail component – as well as being simply perfect on its own.

Going Against The Grain
The English Whisky Company

The English Whisky Company is based in Norfolk and is England’s first registered whisky distilling company in over 100 years. In December 2006 they produced their first 29 barrels of English whisky and since then they have made well over 1000 casks. The first bottles were produced in 2009 and since then there have been a number of acclaimed releases which you are invited to sample.

First distilled in 1824, ‘The Macallan’ has gained a fantastic reputation over the last half century for great quality malt whisky and is possibly one of the most sought after whiskies for collectors.
Another legendary Scottish brand is Highland Park, Scotland’s most northerly whisky distillery, which lies just to the North-East of Scapa. Come in store to discover what makes these two distinct distilleries so popular amongst malt purists and casual whisky aficionados alike.
