East High is coming to Salford, with Jason Donovan and original High School Musical star KayCee Stroh joining the cast of a major new stage production of the Disney favourite.
Donovan will take on the role of basketball coach and reluctant theatre convert Coach Bolton, while Stroh, who played Martha Cox across all three High School Musical films, steps into the role of drama teacher Ms Darbus. They join Tobias Turley as Troy, Leonor Correia as Gabriella, Caitlin Tipping as Sharpay and Luke Bayer as Ryan.
Based on the hit Disney Channel Original Movie, the show follows Troy and Gabriella as a chance karaoke duet leads them towards the school musical, much to the confusion of their friends, basketball teammates and East High’s resident theatre stars.
This new production will turn the Lyric Theatre into an immersive East High experience, with extended staging and on-stage seating placing some audience members right in the middle of the basketball games, auditions and school drama.
Co-directed by Hope Mill Theatre founders Joseph Houston and William Whelton, the production features all the songs that made the original film a mid-2000s phenomenon, including Breaking Free, We’re All In This Together, Stick to the Status Quo and Get’cha Head in the Game.
