The team behind Stray are opening a new late-night bar on Great Ancoats Street this September.
Called Bar Dos, the new venue is being described as Stray’s ‘tearaway younger sibling’, with a greater focus on music alongside cocktails, wine and beer.
It will open next to recently launched Italian restaurant Proloco and the forthcoming new home of OSMA, adding another opening to the stretch of Great Ancoats Street.
Bar Dos follows the success of Stray, which was opened by friends and business partners Ben Reilly and Fran Cruse at Mackie Mayor in November 2023. The Northern Quarter cocktail bar has since established itself nationally, placing at number 25 in the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list in 2025.
Stray has become known for an unfussy approach to cocktails, with the team infusing spirits and making cordials in-house. Its signature Tomato Vine Margarita combines tomato vine-infused tequila with mezcal, tomato, agave and citrus, while other drinks have included the Rhubarb and Pine Gimlet and its regularly changing martini serve.
The Tomato Vine Margarita in particular has become one of the bar’s best-known drinks, and has also been sold by Stray as a bottled cocktail to take home.
Bar Dos will take some of that attention to drinks in a broader direction. Its menu is set to cover everything from pints of Stella to wines which mix familiar bottles with more unusual choices, while retaining Stray’s focus on cocktails.
Music will play a more prominent role at the new venue, with playlists curated by artists alongside DJs taking over at weekends.
The first names announced include Manchester electronic duo Space Afrika, MC and DJ Chunky, Private Joy and Konnie Kon of Children of Zeus.
Stray residents Rhod Parry and Stu Richards will also be among those providing the soundtrack.
Bar Dos is set to open on Great Ancoats Street in September. More information will be announced via @bar.dosssss.
