We’re pretty lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful spots in Manchester for an afternoon stroll or picnic in the park, and as part of this year’s ‘UK’s Favourite Park’ awards, 10 of our beloved green spaces have been nominated for the top prize

Set up by Fields in Trust, an organisation that champions and supports local green spaces, the awards celebrate the UK’s best parks and green spaces whilst also highlighting the threat that some are facing.

The parks nominated for the coveted award this year have provided solace for people during the recurring lockdowns of 2021, as well as a special place to get active, move around and engage with the local community.

The list of Manchester nominations includes; Oldham’s Alexandra Park, Bramhall Park, Bruntwood Park, Burrs Country Park, Cringle Park, Debdale Park, Didsbury Park, Fletcher Moss Park, Foxdenton Park and Happy Valley Nature Reserve.

All parks were shortlisted from hundreds of entries across the UK, showcasing the special place each one holds in the heart of its community.

It’s hard to escape the charm of Fletcher Moss, with its spiralling orchids and marshy woodland and Levenshulme’s Cringle Park made the list for being a ‘godsend’ to its local community throughout the pandemic.

Bruntwood Park has been shortlisted for its diverse wildlife that call the park home and, as the name states, Happy Valley Nature Reserve is a blissful, happy place known for its walking routes and vast ancient woodland.

Fields in Trust is an independent charity with over 90 years’ experience protecting parks and green spaces. The organisation dedicates its time to working with landowners, community groups and policy makers to champion the value of our parks and green spaces, in order to achieve better protection for their future at both local and national level.
