It was rumoured back in March that Jollibee would soon be dropping in the UK armed with all of its tasty fried goodness, and they weren’t having us on!
The chain now has restaurants across the UK and Manchester is looking to be its next destination.
Opening in the former Carphone Warehouse unit on Market Street, Jollibee will bring everything weird and wonderful from its menu. Established in 1978, the company was built up from humble ice cream store beginnings, then later on expanded to create its hot food that is known and loved worldwide today.
Jollibee quickly became the market leader in the Philippines’ fast food industry and by 1998, was a globally successful business. The brand continues to be owned by Jollibee Group with over 1,400 locations across Asia, Europe, the US and the UK.
The restaurant is apparently best known for the ‘Chickenjoy Fried Chicken‘ – a bonafide phenomena in the Philippines with millions of fans and thousands of them sold every single day. Crispy on the outside and juicy within, just how you want your chicken to be, it’s hand-breaded in store using a secret recipe you’ll struggle to find anywhere else.
They’re also well-known for their Jolly Spaghetti; an odd combination of chopped up hot dogs and a sweet Filipino-style tomato sauce, and a breakfast dish which comes with corned beef, garlic rice and egg. All sounds pretty damn delicious if you ask me?!
Considered the Philippines’ Best-Tasting Fried Chicken by most – Jollibee will have some serious competition from the wealth of fried chicken shops here in Manchester – so hopefully it really is as good as people say.
Another juicy bit of gossip is that, apparently, the restaurant still outperforms both McDonald’s and KFC in the Philippines. If that’s true, we’ll definitely be first in line when it finally opens its doors in what looks to be early 2022!
