We know by now we shouldn’t be panic and mass buying products, so get local, support independents and not Tesco and get your meat, eggs, bread and wine from your local butchers…

The Butcher’s Quarter
The Butcher’s Quarter may be situated in the Northern Quarter, but that’s not to say the meat is too. Sourced from the likes of the Peak District, Yorkshire and Lancashire, the meat at the Butcher’s Quarter is of the freshest quality, but that’s not all they have to offer. With any good cut of meat, it is customary to select an equally delicious bottle of wine. And perhaps even some hand-selected cheeses for afters. The Butcher’s Quarter is more than just a butchers; it is also winery, deli and cheese stockist too.

J W Mettrick & Son Ltd
Glossop’s very own JW Mettrick is the best place to go for award-winning local produce. They source everything from the Peak District, North West and the Midlands, with all of their cattle passing through their very own abattoir. This small and traceable supply chain ensures that all the meat they supply is of the upmost quality – you’re getting the proper stuff here.

Pearsons Butchers
Located over in Ashton’s excellent Market Hall, Pearsons have a long history of top-quality goods since 1984. Run by father and son team, they sell the very best in British beef, lamb and pork and their bacon is home cured. Their award-winning sausages are outstanding and are made in-house right there. I’ve yet to try them but if you get the chance – go for their Honey Glazed Parsnip Sausages and you’re laughing.

Walmsleys Butchers
Walmsleys Butchers in Ramsbottom has been recognised as one of the best butchers in the entire country. Despite being modest in size, Walmsleys has won many awards over the years and it’s easy to see why. Unlike many high-street supermarkets, the butchers hang some of the meat for at least 14 days and ensure that all of their cuts are free from additives and hormones. However, Walmsleys real selling point is their dedication to the animals. All non-intensively reared and grass fed; only the healthiest and happiest animals are chosen (and of course, they are killed in the most humane way).

Wheildons
Located on Queensway in Burnage, Wheildons take huge pride in their locally-sourced produce and their home made dishes. This place used to be my go-to stop for massive curly Cumberland Sausages when making brekkie and if I still lived nearby – would be now. They also serve up a decent selection of fruit and veg – a lot like the green grocers from the early 90’s that my mam used to make me visit twice a day.

This fantastic butchers in Chorlton not only serve expert cuts of meat to many of the city’s dining establishments but are also a shining example of how to use Twitter effectively and in an entertaining way for any business.
