A new BBC documentary has delved deep into Manchester’s city living boom, meeting the people who live and work within the residential property and development industries.

Filmed over 12 months, the documentary features CAPITAL&CENTRIC co-founder Tim Heatley, a millionaire looking for the perfect penthouse, homeless friends looking to get themselves off the streets and more – perfectly encapsulating the whole housing market within the city today.

Manchester is one the UK’s fastest developing cities, with the population of the city centre set to double over the next 5 years. With such promised growth, the documentary makers have dubbed it ‘Manctopia’.

With thousands of new homes set to be built and billions of pounds being invested, the documentary aims to get a balanced outlook on the many different people involved, from the property developers, to the communities struggling to maintain their culture, to the families looking to survive in an area where it’s easy to get priced out by a lack of affordable housing.

The programme also meets some of the city’s many homeless people looking at the services on offer to them, as well as speaking to and charities that have been set up to help support them.

Manctopia will be shown at 9pm on Tuesday 18th August and at the same time weekly after that. It’ll also be on iPlayer too.
