Fancy a trip to Florida without spending a small fortune on flights? This summer, Manchester’s rooftop Backyard Cinema is transforming into an ode to the palm tree paradise of Miami Beach, complete with white sand, sunsets, and cocktails.
Taking over the venue inside Depot Mayfield, the Miami Beach experience will showcase several nostalgic films that give a nod to the golden age of cinema. Kicking off on Wednesday 5 July, guests will be welcomed by hosts at the art-deco Miami Beach Hotel before enjoying films complete with live dancers, drag queens and sing-a-longs, as well as street food from local vendors.
Classic 1980s blockbuster Dirty Dancing will be screened every Friday evening, and the brand-new Barbie movie featuring Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie will also be shown at the event. Miami Beach offers themed cocktails with all screenings, as you sink your bum into a beanbag and your toes into the sand.
Alongside this, a huge Drag Takeover is scheduled for the residency, where guests will get a chance to celebrate Pride sitting under palm trees, flamingos, and disco balls. Beach parties will also be held at the venue, featuring sing-a-longs to hits from films including Grease, The Greatest Showman, Mamma Mia and more.
Backyard Cinema is a completely immersive and interactive cinema that’s grown from a passionate project of a few film fanatics to a huge travelling pop-up. It’s brought winter wonderlands, circus events and other themed experiences to venues across the UK, and the Miami Beach event marks its spectacle for summer.
Dominic Davies, Founder and Creative Director said “After the huge success of our winter season we are super excited to bring our smash-hit Miami Beach to the roof of Depot Mayfield. We are going to take people back to a retro 80s Miami full of glitz and glamour and create the closest thing to a Summer Holiday in Mayfield.”
Miami Beach opens at Backyard Cinema on Wednesday 5 July. Tickets are available on Fever with prices starting from £9.50.
