You might not know this but there’s actually a Martial Arts studio above The Bay Horse on Thomas Street in the Northern Quarter. I only know this because I was drinking in the beer garden outside the pub once and could hear all sorts of grunts, panting and yelps coming from above.
Knowing what I know now though, these noises might not have been coming from the Martial Arts gym, but instead Bodybarre Studio – which is on the 2nd floor and where people learn pole dancing, aerial skills, gymnastics and even burlesque!
It was the first Pole Fitness School in Manchester, although, obviously, as a 36 year old overweight plonker, I’ve never been up there.
But it looks like a fantastic, safe place to get involved and learn a new skill whilst keeping fit, and the whole place is watched over by the founder Karen Walker – a gymnast who has also trained in martial arts, dance, aerial dancing and pole.
This Saturday 26th March, Bodybarre will be hosting their very own choreographed live Burlesque Dance & Aerial Show; a “fun night out for all who enjoy a dance and aerial show that provides laughter, mystery and glamour.”
Kicking off from 7.15pm, the show is BYOB, so you can bring your own booze and the corkage fee is included in the ticket price – so no extra charges. Even better – ice buckets, glasses, bottle openers, corkscrews… they’re all supplied!
“Entertainment with unusual and stunning aerial and ground-based performances that ooze lavish visuals, extravagant fantasy, and breathtaking giggly moments!”
