Commemorating its 9th year of operation due to cancelling in 2020 because of COVID-19, the Women in Comedy Festival will take place across the city from Saturday 1st October until Monday 10th October 2022

The festival began back in 2012 to champion and support women in the industry, showcasing huge names from across the UK at various venues in the city.

Originally founded by Hazel O’Keefe, the festival is now directed by Jessica Toomey who also leads Northern Quarter’s famous comedy club, The Frog and Bucket.

Sharing the same ethos and vision as Hazel, Jessica has made the Women in Comedy Festival an accessible event that spans a variety of platforms, including; stand-up, comedy theatre, improv, sketches, workshops and debates

A true showcase of the rich, diverse and extremely talented pool of women in comedy from the UK and abroad, this year is possibly the most important yet for the festival, as those in the industry have had limited outlets and exposure for almost 2 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The festival will have a focus on bringing together people once again to socialise, network, showcase, learn, teach and reconnect. Those behind the event said: “We are excited to bring another fantastic programme of shows across many fantastic venues in Manchester City Centre and continue championing and supporting women in comedy.”

This year’s programme features performances from breakthrough acts such as Fiona Ridgewell, Nicola Houghton, Jenny Hart, Priyangee Guha, Isy SuttieHayley Ellis and many more.

Venues including; The Frog and Bucket, Northern Monk, Twenty Twenty Two, Rose and Monkey, Fierce Bar, Cane and Grain, The Fitzgerald and Gullivers will host this year’s line-up that also sees some in person and online conferences take place across the 10 days.

The Women in Comedy Festival kicks off on Saturday 1st October.

Tickets for all of the shows and seminars are on sale now. You can view the entire programme and purchase tickets via the link below.
