A Festival of East & South East Asian Street Food is coming to Manchester

Featuring Little Yellow Rice Co, Korean Grub Club and more...

GRUB will be launching their annual celebration of East & South East Asian street food, desserts and drinks from Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd April.

The FREE festival of food is set to feature five of the city’s very best in Asian street food, as well as a special pop-up bar from the amazing Southeast Asian Tarsier Spirit.

Who’s going to be on over the three days then? Well, I’m glad you asked – here’s the line-up so far…

Little Yellow Rice Co.
From attending many of Manchester’s best street food markets, to hosting unique Supper Clubs, Little Yellow Rice Co. have been absolutely smashing it over the past twelve months or so with their unique Peranakan dishes, inspired by a mixture of Malaysian, Chinese and Indian cultures. The Hainanese Chicken Rice is a must.

Korean Grub Club
If Korean fried chicken, spicy rice, crispy bao and homemade kimchi is your thing, KGC is definitely perfect for you! Founded by Sean Son in 2019, he wanted to share some of his favourite Korean dishes with the people of the UK, embarking on a journey that has taken in the length and breadth of the country – gracing street food markets and restaurants everywhere.

Osaka Local
There’s only one word you need to know when it comes to Osaka Local… Okonomiyaki. When I went to visit my mate Taka in Osaka a few years back he introduced me to this speciality – basically a thick savoury cabbage pancake that’s topped with mayo and brown sauce. Of course, it’s a lot more complex and impressive than that savage description and the team at Osaka Local make probably the best you’re gonna have without shelling out a grand on a flight to Japan.

Rice Over Everything
Originally from Myanmar, May’s favourite thing to do in the world in to feed people, and with Rice Over Everything – she does a truly outstanding job of it. If you haven’t tried one of her chilli sauces – then you haven’t lived. Her Original Burmese Chilli just seems to make every single dish it touches about a million times better. I’ve started putting mine on everything I cook at home, including a Trifle I made the other day. And yes – it was much better.

Amai Desserts
Specialising in a range of sweet treats that you’re likely to find on the streets of Beijing or Seoul, Amai Desserts seriously impress when it comes to their loaded bubble waffles. They come with a dazzling array of toppings, including the obligatory Biscoff and they even do vegan and gluten free ones. Oh, and if the weather is good – they’ll do you some Taiwanese Snow Ice too.
