There are many reasons for The Counter House’s success in Ancoats. Not only is it in a prime location in a neighbourhood in town that has recently been voted the 13th best place to live in the world, but they also serve up consistently excellent food and drinks throughout the day and into the evening.
This is the first major re-shuffle of their menu since opening and so it’s a rather considerable change from what you might expect. Gone are the various different menus with just an All Day, an Evening and finally a Sunday menu remaining. Nice and simple.
Their Sunday menu remains pretty much the same, offering up their fantastic Roast Dinner offering which has garnered the venue a reputation for offering quite possibly the best in the city.
First up for changes to the other menus comes in the form of the All-Day option, which will be getting rolled out on Tuesday 29th October. I caught up with the team last week to talk through the menu, as well as get a chance to have a sneak peek at what’s on offer. Expect a review very soon.
The new All-Day menu hopes to bridge the gap between brunch and lunch menus, offering a range of dishes that are synonymous with both. So, you’re going to find a range of ‘Eggs on Toast’ alongside pancakes, burgers, pancakes, crepes and even desserts – meaning no matter what time it is or what you’re craving – they’ll have something for you.
First up they have a selection of healthy bowls, perfect for a quick morning snack or part of a health kick after a big sesh down the gym. Organic oats, yoghurt and of course Acai are all offered – each coming festooned with an array of delightful toppings and additions.
One of the biggest changes with the new menu comes with the ‘Eggs on Toast’ section – a bit of the menu which allows you to have a selection of toast toppers, each one as delicious as the next. There’s Smashed Avocado with a Poached Egg (£8.50), there’s Eggs’ Benedict (£8.70), Royale (£9.50) and Florentine (£8.00) and even a vegan option of Avocado, Spiced Chickpea, Lemon Tahini and Toasted Sesame (£8.00).
Keeping with what the people want, they’ve decided to keep their fantastic Full English Breakfasts on the menu (now available until 5pm!!), with a meaty option (£11.00) as well as an impressive vegan option (£10.50) that comes complete with scrambled tofu, potato fritter and some wonderful aubergine bacon slices.
For those of you with a bit of a sweet tooth there’s plenty to choose from with a choice of Coconut Crepes (£7.50) and Stacked Pancakes (£8.50) on offer. You can have these topped with all manner of goodies including homemade Nutella, creme fraise and roasted hazelnuts to streaky bacon and maple syrup.
Finally, The Counter House are offering up their stacked Counter Burger (£13.50); which comes with streaky bacon, cheese, thousand island dressing and fries, and their Counter Club (£11.50) a sandwich stuffed with lemon thyme chicken, bacon, spinach, avocado, a fried egg, Sriracha mayo and fries. Oh, not to mention a huge favourite of mine – Halloumi Fries (£4.50).
There’s also a list of desserts on offer which will leave you drooling and wishing you’d left some space for them in your belly. Dark Chocolate Molten Cake (£6.50), Sticky Toffee Pudding (£6.00) and a wonderful Banana Bread (£5.50) are all on offer, as well as a Vanilla Cheesecake (£6.50) which I’ve been told is “probably the best thing on the whole menu”. Bold words indeed.
