“This menu is very different from our launch menu and will create a lot of talking points – there’s not many places you can try a cocktail that tastes like fried chicken!”
Indeed not. But 97, on Chorlton’s Beech Road, from the team behind The Lead Station and Tariff & Dale, has gone and done it.
Their new cocktail menu is inspired by two of the very greatest things – a good cocktail and a fine snack to accompany it.
Called Reinterpretation of Culinary Classics, the new menu is all about creating connections with the foods and drinks we all know and love, with a splash of nostalgia in there too.
There are 15 new drinks in all – perhaps the most notable being the ‘Fried Chicken’, made with Japanese single malt, Japanese blended ‘chicken fat’ whisky, chicken syrup and long pepper, a dried, spiced aromat. It’s then finished with a shard of crisp chicken skin.
Then there’s the ‘Key Lime Pie’, made with Biscuit Gin, Amaretto Bianco, plum, mangosteen, cream, vanilla, lime, and egg whites, and the ‘Taco’ made with chipotle tequila, kumquat, aloe vera, corn husk, avocado oil and pineapple oleo.
“We launched 97 with our Top Trumps menu, which has been incredibly popular over the last 18 months, with several drinks from that menu staying as Guest Favourites on the new menu,” said the team.
“Our Reinterpretation of Culinary Classics has been a long time coming – as a team we’ve been meticulous in researching, creating, trying and tweaking each cocktail until they’re absolutely perfect and we’re very happy with the results.

“We’re excited for people to come and try it and see what they think. There’s something here for everyone and whether you’d like a classic cocktail or something totally different, we have a drink to suit.”
97 opened last year, modelled on the renowned Hotel Costes in Paris.
Alongside the new cocktails, the menu features 11 guest favourites, including classics like the Manhattan, negroni, daiquiri and margarita.
