Rejoice! After years of watching videos on Instagram and TikTok, you’ll be pleased to know that fluffy soufflé pancakes are FINALLY coming to Manchester, as Fuwa Fuwa announce that they’ll be opening a new cafe in Manchester New Square this October.

In what looks to be the company’s first foray into the UK, Fuwa Fuwa (meaning “fluffy fluffy”) are in fact North America’s largest soufflé pancake and dessert cafe – with locations across Canada.

The company is owned by Benson Lau who was born in Hong Kong, and Yuka Naka from Osaka – the birthplace of this unusual style of pancake. Originally served as a wedding dessert, the pancakes have found immense popularity online for a few years now, and Fuwa Fuwa have been slowly expanding and riding the wave.

The pancakes themselves get their height (and wiggle) from the egg-heavy batter – a cross between a cake and an egg soufflé. The egg whites in the pancake get whipped to white peaks before being folded into the batter. Both the batter and each pancake are made fresh, meaning the process takes as long as 20 minutes.

Set to open their own cafe in the Manchester New Square development just off Canal Street, you should expect a varied choice of pancakes and toppings, from Tiramisu Pancakes to Crème Brûlée served alongside espresso drinks, iced and hot teas, frappes, smoothies and more.

Fuwa Fuwa is set to open in October. In the meantime, follow them on Instagram for news and developments…
