Starting life in the basement of their tiny fisherman’s cottage in Brighton back in 2002, Giggling Squid has grown massively over the subsequent 20 years, but have never reached further north than Nottingham. Until now.

Now with over 40 restaurants spread over London, Bristol and the Midlands, Giggling Squid are coming to Spinningfields in 2022, right on Hardman Square opposite The Ivy.

The initial idea was to offer up “simple, rustic, fresh Thai food” with lots of dishes that everyone shares – just like back in Thailand. Owner Pranee grew up on the banks of the Mekong River, visiting the local markets everyday with her mother at 5am.

She’d see “huge fish splashing in water tubs, transparent shrimps, an endless variety of herbs and vegetables…” and thus Giggling Squid’s recipes and dishes take in this abundance of natural ingredients and flavours.

There’s an extensive menu of STARTERS that are perfect for sharing – Phuket Mussels (£6.95), Samui Zingy Prawns (£6.95), Mah Kwan Pepper Pork Belly (£6.50) plus all of the classics – Spring Rolls (£5.95), Salt & Pepper Squid (£7.50) and Chicken Satay (£6.50).

There’s also an extensive selection of PAD THAI dishes, plus MAINS split up into ‘Stir Fry’, ‘From the Water’ and ‘From the Land’.

Giggling Squid also offer a diverse range of COCKTAILS – many of them with a distinctive Thai twist. There’s the Thai-spresso Martini (£8.50) with coconut coffee liqueur and toasted coconut flakes, and the Me Time Margarita (£9.25) that’s been muddled with ginger and lemongrass and comes with a curry-salt rim.

Giggling Squid Spinningfields is set to open some time early 2022 – keep an eye on their socials for more details and developments…
