There’s a rather exciting new opening coming to the city centre, as Zizzi’s on King Street is set to be transformed into L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele – generally considered to be the best pizza in Naples – perhaps even the world.

The Naples institution shot to worldwide fame back in 2010 when Julia Roberts visited in the film Eat, Pray. Love and proclaimed that she was “having a relationship with my pizza”.
We’ve all had a relationship with pizza Julia – no need to brag.
The scene in Eat, Pray, Love was just another notch on the reputation of L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele – a pizzeria that has been open in Naples since 1870 and is a firm local favourite – with queues forming outside on a daily basis.
They like to keep things simple with only two pizzas: the traditional Margherita (tomato, mozzarella, a touch of basil) and the Marinara (tomato, oregano, olive oil, garlic).
Luckily for us though, it’s highly likely that this new pizzeria will have more than just two dishes on the menu. There’s a couple in London and their menus are packed full of pizzas, pastas and desserts – as well as loads of booze and cocktail options.
Well, it seems that Manchester is set to be the next port of call for L’Antica – and they’re going to have some stiff competition from the city’s already established Neapolitan pizza experts.
Could this pizza be better than Rudy’s? I hereby promise a true taste test (with some Italians) once they get here.
