Ezra and Gil is easily one of the city centre’s best brunch spots, serving up more than enough runny eggs and avocado slices to keep everyone content but they’ve actually got one of the best-kept secrets in the city…
Throughout the pandemic, Ezra and Gil have been keeping city centre dwellers well-watered and well-fed. Swinging open their doors at 8am for the early risers and closing them again at 8pm serving up an all-day menu of delicious grub and seriously tasty coffee throughout.
Back in October, the cafe introduced Ezra by Night, a menu of traditional, authentic Italian food courtesy of Italian head chef, Dan, each evening.
Dan Mancini, born in Bolzano and raised in Trento, Dan was an accountant by trade before pursuing his dream to become a chef back in 2013.
He’s been with Ezra & Gil since the very beginning and is now well and truly part of the furniture. His new taste of Italy evening menu offers up a small list of specially curated pasta dishes.
The menu includes the likes of King Prawn Linguini (£9.50) – one of the best sellers so far – this light pasta dish is served good drizzle of garlic and chilli oil and thinly sliced courgettes.
For those who like things with a bit of heat, there’s the Rigatoni pasta in a creamy and spicy nduja sauce (£9.00) served with a splash of lemon and sprinkle of parsley.
The menu includes a range of vegetarian dishes, including Orecchiette Pugliesi (£8) a tomato and basil based sauce with buffalo mozzarella and Agnolotti with Pumpkin and Taleggio Cheese (£9.50).
Plus there’s even a vegan Tagliatelle (£8) dish served with vegan-friendly red wine homemade lentil ragu.
We took the brief walk from the office to head to Ezra and Gil and get a taste of the new menu last week, plus Matt White had a chat with head chef Dan.
Matt practised his best pronunciation of Italian grub, got the best advice for cooking pasta and talked through all the things you simply do not put in pasta, like chicken.
