It’s not easy finding something that’s truly authentic these days, with Mexican food in Morrisons, curries in Wetherspoons and Portuguese Piri Piri that’s really actually from South Africa.

Well, there’s none of that over at KBOM Bar & Kitchen at Hatch, they serve up the city’s most authentic Portuguese and Brazilian dishes – cooked and created by their dedicated team of chefs.

Housed within a shipping container, owner Marcio Coelho has created an intimate and exciting environment in which to eat and drink, with bold colours, brickwork and an iconic Portuguese street scene taking centre stage – a like-for-like painting of famous street art you’d find in Lisbon.

Once seated you’ll get the chance to explore their eclectic menu, one that features an impressive array of dishes, alongside offerings that Marcio and team have developed themselves in-house.

Starting with their Small Plates and Starters, you can create an almost tapas-style experience, with deep-fried Rissóis – croquettes stuffed with cheese, shrimp, salt cod or chicken, as well as Pao de Quejio – cheesy dough balls that are in fact the most popular street snack in Brazil – and it’s not hard to see why!

KBOM also specialise in their unique Chicken Wings, marinated and cooked in the best Piri Piri seasoning you’ll ever taste. They even do special HOT wings if you think you’re brave enough to try them.

On to their mains now and KBOM offer up a selection of Brazilian and Portuguese dishes that you’re not likely to get anywhere else in the city – and certainly the most authentic.

The talented team of chefs at KBOM have worked hard to ensure that every dish offers a true representation of their cuisine, with delights such as the Picanha a Brasileira; a tender grilled steak dish is served with black beans, rice and a delicious homemade Farofa seasoning being one of their particular highlights.

That Farofa seasoning is, in fact, a toasted flour mixture that is traditionally tipped over the accompanying black beans and take the flavours to a whole new level.

Some of KBOM’s most popular dishes are those where Marcio and the team have taken something and given it a Portuguese and Brazilian twist, such as their Burger topped with Grilled King Prawns or their brilliant Gambas Fries; garlic prawn topped loaded fries!

Finally, for anyone who enjoys Nandos – you should probably sack it off and go for the real stuff at KBOM. They take pride in the authenticity of their Piri Piri seasoning, and their chicken is truly outstanding.

Their Piri Piri Burger and Frango Grelhado Platters are a must try, the latter serving up a whole grilled chicken, with piri piri wings, fries, salad and dips, all for £19.95.

There’s plenty of food to be going at over at KBOM, and they also don’t scrimp on the drinks wither. In the tiny space you’ll find two lager pumps serving Super Bock and Sagres, as well as Sangria on tap – yep, you heard that correctly – SANGRIA ON TAP!

The most authentic Brazilian and Portuguese dishes in the whole of Manchester – KBOM should be somewhere any self-respecting ‘foodie’ should visit, if only for the best Piri Piri Chicken you’ll ever have in your life.
