Loaf MCR is Manchester’s very first cafe dedicated to the loaf cake. Founded by Aiden Ryan, the cafe serves an array of sweet treats and bakes that take inspiration from nostalgic biscuits, offering them alongside coffee.

To celebrate its new city centre location, Loaf MCR has partnered with some of Manchester’s best creatives to give you a weekend of endless cake, cocktails and exclusive collaborations. Here’s what to expect…

Saturday 14th May

Starting on Saturday 14th May, from 10am – 11.30am, Loaf will serve a brioche breakfast, coffee and refreshments soundtracked by live singer Grace Kelly.

Then, from 12pm – 6pm there’ll be loads of Loaf cake-inspired cocktails from In Good Co, using all classic flavour profiles to create matching or complimentary drinks!

Throughout the day, Loaf will serve cake canapés, alongside stalls from Manchester makers and designers including; Misshandled Design, Hollie Cooper Ceramics, No Chintz Studio and an exclusive pop-up shop by Cow Vintage.

Heart and Graft Coffee will also be stopping by to offer some delicious locally sourced beans, and Bondi Bowls and The Crafty Cheese Man will also be serving up some of their finest produce

As day turns to night, DJ Mark Webster from Funkademia will take to the decks at Affinity Living, bringing the party until close! You’ll still be able to grab the bespoke cocktails from In Good Co, as well as a Dessert Loaf collaboration with A Few Scoops beginning a limited edition ice cream.

Sunday 15th May

The celebrations don’t stop on Saturday either, as from 11am – 12pm on Sunday, Aiden is offering a pastry or cake slice and coffee for £4.50. This will be on a first come first served basis, so make sure you get down there quick!

The stalls will continue across Sunday and Alex Giles will again be showcasing an exhibition across the two days, with live painting also taking place in the space.

If you’re heading down with a couple of kids in tow, Loaf is also hosting some family friendly events across the Sunday celebrations.

From 11am – 12pm, Little Loaf Cake Decorating for Kids by queen of cakes, Ruth is taking place, and from 12pm until 4pm, there’s an Art Workshop – ‘Drawing Loafly Things with Love Kiddo’ hosted in the snug. This will end with storytelling with Colour The Clouds from 2pm – 4pm.

Loaf began in May 2020 in the height of the pandemic as Aiden started baking to raise money for the NHS. Before he knew it, he was supplying 13 different cafes across Manchester and doing personal orders from a shipping container in Pollard Yard, Ancoats.

In less than 2 years, Loaf Mcr has supplied Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Pretty Little thing, and has now opened their first site in Affinity Living Riverview, Salford. They’re also working towards opening their flagship store on Oxford Road this summer.

They are introducing some great new light lunch options to balance the sweet with savoury with grab and go artisanal sandwiches and bagels from Sndwch Mcr, salads and smoothies from Bondi Bowls, and natural made soft drinks from Steep Soda Co etc.

The ‘Loaf at Home’ Concept means customers will benefit from a curation of provisions by Store Supply; a selection of products by the best independent brands available in the UK. To celebrate this, Loaf Mcr will also be providing customers with a retail shelf to buy their favourite brands for home use (Oatmilks, Drinks, Spreads etc), most of which will be used behind the counter or made in house.
