You might have seen a venue on Oldham Street for a while now and generally wondered WTF it is. Well, I’m about to reveal all so hold onto your trousers!

From the lads behind the VERY impressive Tokyo Ramen comes DISTRICT a New Wave Thai Kitchen and Bar, intent on bringing a futuristic vision of Bangkok’s fire-and-barbecue-lined streets to the Northern Quarter.

With a progressive approach to Thai food, District will bring wood fired, modern barbecue cookery to Manchester, encouraging innovation but maintaining accessibility.

District offers two distinct experiences, where the team will create an engaging, long-lasting dinner that consistently engages the senses – from the smells of char that waft from the kitchen, to the synthwave soundtrack.

With an aesthetic that builds on Bangkok’s unique combination of futurism and time-honoured tradition, District will be a novel and exhilarating addition to Manchester’s restaurant circuit.

The first experience, My First Crush, is priced at £40 and includes unique dishes such as Barbecue Hogget Belly with Nam Prik Pao and Raw Wild Bass with Nam Jim.

The Full Experience – prices at £85 – punctuates the smaller menu with decadent interruptions, like aged Goosnargh duck and market fish with Isan herb sauce. Both menus conclude with It Was Only A Dream, District’s take on a classic Thai dessert, mango with sticky rice.

District is equipped with a small and unique bar in the downstairs area, designed to supplement the evening’s food. By utilising the same ingredients and techniques that are found in the kitchen, District’s approach to drink is impossible to replicate.

“We wanted to add to the dining experiences available in the Northern Quarter, bringing something different but accessible. We don’t want dining to be a quick in-out job. Restaurants can be a place to spend a whole evening, at a pace that really allows you to relax.” – Owner, Danny Collins
