Menagerie have literally brought something new to the table for 2017, and it comes in the form of Afternoon Tea.
I’m a really big fan of the traditional, the classics some might say, I like my Sunday Roasts, I like Fish and Chips and there’s no shame in ordering a really good Chicken Tikka Masala, and from curry to scones that rather un-conveniently brings me to afternoon tea at Menagerie…
Since opening, Menagerie has strived to bring Manchester the unusual, and by that I don’t mean weird and wonderful I simply mean “not the usual” and their afternoon tea is no exception. Who knew that Coney Island was just a few steps over a bridge from the bottom of Spinningfields and that the big wheel would bring treats galore.
First tho it’s a glass of Moet Brut because no trip to Menagerie would be complete without a glass of fizz, even if it’s only 1pm on a Saturday afternoon. The afternoon tea arrives fresh from the kitchen with the big wheel taking centre stage. soft white bread finger sandwiches with cucumber & chive, salmon with lemon butter, egg mayonnaise with watercress, flavours you simply don’t have every week (unless your Mary Berry) and cold cut beef & horseradish bringing a lovely bit of heat to the party.
I must admit however the whole time you’re enjoying those sandwiches you’ll be thinking about 1 thing and 1 thing only – cake wheel. There’s a brief stop off at the scone stand where fresh cream and strawberries are waiting to prepare you for the main attraction, a lovely selection of small treats, the brownie in particular stands out, all the while you cant help but rotate the wheel and instagram to your hearts content.
We really enjoyed our afternoon tea at Menagerie, the traditionalist in my heart was not disappointed and the playful part of me thoroughly enjoyed himself.
