If your family is anything like mine, there won’t be a scrap left after the bird is stripped bare at midnight for turkey sandwiches. Us Irish Catholics breed and eat like hungry carnivorous rabbits.

Lucky for us, The Lowry Hotel has a special three-course menu available all Boxing Day afternoon. Bring the clan along and tuck into some delicious dishes such as:

Jerusalem artichoke veloute, sage & onion fritter, herb oil (v)

Oak smoked salmon, potted brown shrimp, capers, shallots and lemon dressing

Confit duck spring rolls, pear puree, swede & carrot spaghetti, plum sauce

50-day aged rib of beef, Yorkshire pudding, goose fat roast potatoes, traditional vegetables, jus

Pan fried fillet of Loch Duart salmon, saffron pomme puree, balsamic pimentos, sauce vierge

Porcini & garlic girasole, ratatouille, parmesan cream (v))

Panettone bread & butter pudding, chocolate anglaise

Ricotta & chocolate tart, candied kumquats

£45.00 per person, £22.50 per child under 12 available at The River Restaurant which will be open for Boxing Day lunch between 12.30 pm and 4 pm
