A true city center institution, there is a reason Don Giovanni has been feeding Manchester’s public for over 30 years and they have now released a new seasonal update to their a la carte menu. Focusing on fresh and local produce, the restaurant preserves its reputation for bringing classic yet simple flavours to the fore in truly authentic Italian style.

Bringing the taste of an Italian summer to Manchester, Don Giovanni have focused on a lighter feel for the warmer months with ultra-fresh ingredients such as cherry tomato, British asparagus and fresh Cornish crab.

There’s new antipasti updates including a selection of light and peppery salads (think fig, mozzarella and prosciutto, or goats cheese, pine nuts and rocket) as well as stand-out smoky pan-fried octopus with hints of lemon and chilli.

As you’d expect with any Italian restaurant, pasta is a major player on the Don Giovanni menu. As is tradition, Don Giovanni aims to keeps it classic; serving up fresh and unpretentious dishes such as their Tagliolini Scoglio and al Granchio. Both adhere to the key of Italian cooking to keep it simple – with an uncomplicated yet delicious backdrop of tomato allowing fresh-tasting langoustines and crab to take center stage on the plate.

The restaurant’s substantial secondi plates have also undergone a Summer transformation. Pan fried scallops, served in the shell with a rich tomato sauce, are definitely a stand out, as is the hearty shank of lamb which comes on a bed of mashed potato with a red wine jus.

Alternatively if you’re feeling like sticking to a classic then you can now enjoy Don Giovanni’s best-selling Spaghetti Carbonara with guanciale instead of pancetta. £1 from the dish goes towards Addenbrookes Charitable Trust, who treated Jean-Christophe Novelli’s son Valentino through his cancer battle and do great work within the NHS raising funds for cutting edge technology, additional specialist staff, environmental enhancements and extra comforts for patients.
