Tasked with creating a multi-course set menu for 70 lucky diners, Ernst will have no idea what ingredients await him on the day, and will develop his entire evening menu in the hours leading up to service.
As with all Real Junk Food Manchester events, the meal will be served on a pay-as-you-feel basis, and our customers will be invited to give whatever they feel the meal is worth, whatever they would like to support the project, whatever they can afford, or offer their time, energy and skills to the project.
Ernst Van Zyl – Real Junk Food Mcr Guest Chef
Wednesday 21st February
This is part of a season at Real Junk Food Manchester of exciting Guest Chef evenings and residencies by some big names and brilliant supporters of our project. New dates and Guest Chefs will be announced throughout the spring and summer.
Real Junk Food Manchester is all about stamping out food waste. In the short term, they take food that would have been wasted, transform it into amazing meals, and serve those meals to everyone and anyone on a pay-as-you-feel basis. After over 18 months as a pop-up operation, Real Junk Food Mcr opened their first full time restaurant at the beginning of September 2017.
Since opening the restaurant the not-for-profit project has stopped nearly 15 tonnes of food from being wasted, in the process stopping 63 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere. The restaurant now serves an average of 140 meals a day, attracting a huge range of customers.
Real Junk Food Manchester Restaurant is currently open for breakfast and lunch (8am – 3pm) Monday to Friday, and opens for two fine dining evenings per week (Friday and Wednesday).
