Now, I’m not a vegetarian, but I love eating veggie food if it sounds delicious and try being completelt veggie 2-3 times a week. I am a huge fan of finding meat-free dishes in places you do not expect, and I’m an even bigger fan of finding vegetarian dishes which aren’t a lazy afterthought.
The Lowry Hotel is British at its very core, and are certainly mavericks when it comes to cooking meat, many of which are expertly cooked over their Josper Grill. Be that as it may, they still manage to deliver delicious meat-free dishes- which are utterly delicious in their own right.
Start things off with The Lowry Green Salad. Some say boring, I say classic this dish is a stunning concotion of leaves tossed in Chardonnay vinaigrette with toasted pine nuts, herbs and artichokes. To put it bluntly- it is utterly perfect.
Follow this with their Salt Baked Celeriac with a watercress pearl barley risotto (which his vegan too!) or perhaps the Wild Mushroom, Puy Lentil & Aubergine Cottage Pie. This dish gives the real deal a run for its money- it has so much flavour and when paired with a size of truffled mash it makes it certainly hard to say no- although I think they should have called it a ‘Gardeners Pie’.
Their monthly changing Chef’s Choice menu always has some delicious veggie options too. This month, we have Chargrilled Zucchini with truffle burrata, honey, tomberry and a parsley pesto croute. Yeah, what isn’t to like about that sentence? Gooey cheese, pesto, grilled vegggies… I’m literally drooling.
They also have shallow fried Chickpea, Broccoli & Kale Fritters which I could happily eat all day. These come served with an avocado and mango salsa which just takes the whole dish to another level and is 100% meat free. I’m only sad it has to go when the month is up.
Oh, and all the desserts are vegetarian too so you can tuck into a Millefeuille of Raspberry, Coconut Rice Pudding or Sticky Toffee without worry or care.
