On Saturday 10th September, for one night only, Sonata Piano and Cabaret Lounge transforms into a tribute to one of the North’s greatest ever comedians, Victoria Wood.
‘Looking For Me Friend’, led by cabaret performer PAULUS, will pay homage to Victoria’s very best sketches, songs and performances, as well as the ‘Northern’ accent and the modern theatre slang that has evolved through her enormous body of work.
PAULUS, aka Paul L Martin, has been performing in theatre and cabaret for 30 years. Trained in musical theatre, he’s won awards for his acting, producing and promoting work within the fields, and the evening at Sonata will celebrate his 30th year in entertainment with a fitting tribute to his hero.
Paul has performed across the world in places including; Berlin, Paris, Melbourne, Rome, New York, Dublin, Nicaragua and extensively around the UK. He is best-known to many as the hard-to-impress judge on BBC’s award-winning TV show, All Together Now, as well as previously working as a talent judge, mentor and presenter for C4 and Sky.
He’ll be joined on the evening by friend and musical director, Michael Roulston who is well known for his work on the likes of Fascinating Aida, Julie and Madly, Deeply. Together, the pair will use their extensive theatre experience to try and do justice to the Northern queen of comedy.
Directed by multi-award-winning cabaret star, Sarah-Louise Young (An Evening Without Kate Bush; Julie Madly Deeply), Looking For Me Friend is a nostalgic evening of entertainment filled with love, laughter and fabulous memories for Victoria Wood fans, as well as the ultimate beginners guide for any audience member looking to explore her pioneering work.
