A huge scholarship for a female undergraduate to use on MBA studies is up for grabs, via one of Manchester’s leading professional networking organisations.

Manchester Young Professionals have partnered with the University of Manchester’s Alliance Manchester Business School to promote the £48,000 Forté Fellow scholarship grant.

The scholarship is a not-for-profit scholarship scheme that aims to enhance the number of women in business education and wider business by offering partner schools scholarships for successful female applicants.

Last year’s winner Sarah Ovenden used her grant to study her MBA while working for Jaguar Land Rover, doing the qualification part-time.

“I’d always wanted to undertake an MBA, but there’s never perfect timing,” she said. “However, I’d ruled out the possibility of the full-time MBA because, for me, it wasn’t financially viable.”

Manchester Young Professionals co-founder Rich Tyrrell: “Creating multiple career development opportunities for the Manchester community is really important to us at MYP.

“Through our community feedback, we know people are more ambitious than ever before, they are looking to build a career and perhaps work in multiple sectors across multiple companies. This is why it’s so important to us to offer the best the city has to offer.

“Since inception of the Careers arm of MYP, we have made strong efforts to offer our community development opportunities. Such as our mentoring program, a free and accessible initiative which has helped +500 of our community to grow and develop.

“Our MYP X Alliance Manchester Business School partnership enables us to do this in a truly unique style. As a world renowned business school, which offers global travel for segments of the course and the best facilities in the country, we are proud to offer in collaboration with them multiple opportunities to develop their careers.

“Whether that’s bi-monthly talks on different topics, or these exclusive development opportunities.

“These scholarships among many other scholarships offered at AMBS, help us achieve that goal to help the thriving Manchester community to grow and develop.”

He added: “If you’re thinking about building and boosting your career, expanding and diversifying your network or looking for a career transition, we’d strongly encourage you to apply.”

Sarah added: “I’ve gotten an experience to work with individuals from all around the globe, which is something that would have taken me years and years, if even possible, to get without the MBA. I’m learning from peers that have got a wide range of backgrounds.

“I would really encourage any women looking to undertake an MBA to really consider applying for all of the scholarships that are available to them—I nearly didn’t consider them, and I’m so glad I did. If I hadn’t done further research, I probably wouldn’t be here on this journey with my course today.”
