Each and every Wednesday at Electrik of Chorlton you can find some of the finest record collectors and crate diggers, who are invited down to play whatever they want in entirety with no mixing, headphones, scratching or beat juggling, it’s strictly just about the music.
Starting way back in 1984, Steve Barker has gone on to become a cult success by presenting the fantastic ‘On The Wire’ on BBC Radio Lancashire every Sunday, a show that was way ahead of its time in the Eighties – and still is.
Back in those days the chances of hearing anything other than mainstream chart music on the radio on a Sunday afternoon was pretty much zero, but On The Wire changed all that by offering up the best hip-hop, house and techno of the time.
Guests on the show have included the likes of Depeche Mode, Mark E Smith, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and 808 State, although that’s only a tiny list of the massive roster of people who have appeared on the show.
Hosting an alternative radio show for 35 years probably means that Steve has plenty of obscure (and brilliant) classics in his record collection which he will be bringing along to Electrik on the night of Wednesday 22nd August from 8pm. Don’t miss it!
So head on down, it’s FREE, and you can enjoy a fine selection of ales, craft beers, ciders and wine, as well as chow down on a brilliant Yadda Yadda kebab while Steve works his magic.
