What: Afflecks is an emporium of eclecticism, a totem of indie commerce in Manchester’s Northern Quarter and above all else a fantastic place to shop for anything from Top hats to tattoos.

Afflecks sits opposite Smithfield Buildings and former department store Affleck and Brown, in Manchester city centre and is a busy indoor market in the Northern quarter which houses dozens of independent stalls, boutiques and small shops.

Mostly consisting of alternative shops, at Afflecks you can browse up to the minute street wear to stylish vintage pieces, body piercing and tattoos to pretty accessories.  With its relaxing beauty therapists and quaint cafe’s there is no shortage of things to do!

Afflecks has proven to be a haven for young people starting out in the world of business.

Ellie Aston is the founder of Vampire Bunnies, a shop which sells ‘cute but deadly’ handmade customised clothing and accessories  with a quirky 1950’s style. “I decided to set up in Afflecks as I always loved shopping there and it was the right environment to sell my style of clothing in.” Ellie originally started trading in a store called Peepshow in Afflecks in 2004, when it closed down she decided to open her own shop in the centre at the age of 22.

It is also home to larger chain stores such as Grin who specialise in gothic clothing, accessories and printed t-shirts.
