Starting the Bank Holiday with a bang, Mancunians celebrated I Love Manchester Day with a massive display of civic pride as they released 800 balloons carrying their messages of love for their city into the sky.

The activity took place in the city’s Exchange Square at 5.30pm to accompany a massive tweet up where, radio DJ and ex-broom cupboard favourite, Andy Crane invited supporters to tweet messages with the hashtags #ILoveMCR and #Balloons4MCR to get the city trending on Twitter.

The people of Greater Manchester are now challenged with finding these air born messages and bringing them back again by registering them on the Facebook fan page facebook.com/WeLoveMCR.

As an incentive to take part Manchester Arndale has offered two Manchester Arndale Personal Shops worth £125 each – this will include a stylist appointment with their in-house fashion stylist and a gift card worth £125 to spend at Manchester Arndale.

The winners will be drawn at random, with one prize going to the person who finds the balloon that wins, and the other to the person who set it off in the first place.
