Exploding onto the scene back in 2001 with smash hit, ‘21 Seconds’ So Solid Crew became one of the leading ensembles of the early noughties. Consisting of band members, Asher D, Lisa Maffia, Romeo and Harvey – the original line-up is now BACK and performing in Manchester next month for an evening of chaos.
When the quartet burst onto the garage scene back in 2001, they’d previously found their fame across local pirate radio stations such as Supreme FM and Delight FM, which became synonymous with the early revolutionaries.
As soon as they dropped 21 Seconds, the whole scene was flipped on its head, as the Crew laced it with MC vocals and more grit, paving the way for modern day grime music as we now know it.
So Solid Crew are now cited as defining the underground rave scene, serving as a huge inspiration to later garage, hip hop and grime collectives. 21 Seconds was their first ever single, and gained them the Best Newcomer & Best UK Garage Act at the Mobo Awards in 2001 for the iconic track.
The gig at Manchester Academy takes place on Saturday 17th September, and So Solid Crew will be joined on stage by a HUGE line-up of special guests including; Oxide & Neutrino, Nay Nay, Troublesome and Manchester’s own Sweet Female Attitude!
Tickets are currently on sale for £19.50, but are going quick – so for any garage fans yet to buy a ticket to this nostalgic party, grab them now before they’re gone for good!
