It’s summer and its hot, dead hot, too hot for sweating your head off in a dark room dancing like a nob? Never.

August is one of the most important months in the clubbing calendar. It’s the last month of the year that us old timers have the city to ourselves before a wave of students flood the clubs. My advice, get out now, have a good time, then hide away until they piss off in May, someone ring me when they’ve left.

Here’s my top 5 nights to check out, in no particular order and definitely no favouritism…

GZA of Wu Tang Clan @ Joshua Brooks
Hip Hop
Sunday 2nd September 2018 | 7.30pm – 10.30pm | £20

I’m getting this off to a pretty controversial start. This isn’t a club night, it’s not really dance music and guess what, it’s not even in August but what you gonna do about it.

It’s always a treat when any of the Wu Tang Clan are in town and definitely an excuse to get really pissed and fail at trying to rap along to songs you don’t really know the words to, we’ve all been there, me on more occasions than most. Joking aside, getting to see someone as buzzing as GZA in a venue as small, I mean intimate, as Joshua Brooks will be an experience not to be sniffed at. This is on a Sunday night but it’s kind of still the last weekend of August, get down, it’ll be mint.

Egyptian Lover @ Joshua Brooks
Electro
Sunday 26th August | 11pm – 4am | £5

If you’ve got a girlfriend, I’d be really nervous if she’s going to this with her mates and you’re not invited.

Brought to you by 3 different promotion teams, Lost in Music, Micron and More Bounce, Egyptian Lover makes his Manchester debut. Yeah, I was surprised by that as well. Definitely a bit of an icon on the electro scene, I imagine he’s on a lot of people’s bucket lists so getting tickets ASAP is advised, they’re only a fiver.

Bloc2bloc Jungle & Dnb Ting #boomtownblues @ Rebellion
Jungle & DnB
Friday 10th August | 11pm – 4am | £3

Absolutely nothing but love for the guys at Bloc2bloc. For the past few years they’ve put serious work in pushing their sounds and bringing through a number of now established DJ’s. As well as that, they sure know how to throw a party. Expect a mashup of new and old skool Jungle and DnB from some of the cities top selecta’s and some special guests thrown in for good measure.

Check out their facebook page for daily live streams, live sets and some good old mancunian banter: https://www.facebook.com/Bloc2BlocEnt

Juke Joint present: DJ Taye (Teklife/Hyperdub) + Acre @ Joshua Brooks
Saturday 18th August | 11pm – 4am | £8

I know, I know, this is the third one that’s at Joshua Brooks but I’ll stand by my selections.

Remember a few years ago when that Juke/Footwork stuff was all the rage, the biggest thing since dubstep, well it’s back. The team at Juke Joint launch their night by bringing you DJ Taye all the way from Chicago for another Manchester debut. Support comes from Acre, Dr Mystery and Team GB, will definitely be the shout over this weekend.

The Loft Party pt 2 @ Hidden
House & Techno
Saturday 11th August | 4pm – 12am | £6.50

It’s so cool they haven’t even released their lineup or a flyer yet

I was lucky enough to attend the first one of these parties and they are proper good vibes. If house and techno type stuff is your thing, this is one you will not want to miss. In the words of the guy I was speaking to last time “Its sooooooooo cool man, its like, its like, its like being in Berlin or something”
