Cheshire’s award-winning bluedot festival has revealed its first headliner for 2023, with Max Richter bringing VOICES and Recomposed to a unique Thursday opening concert at the iconic Jodrell Bank Observatory.

Following in the footsteps of previous opening headline acts Hannah Peel and Paraorchestra, and Manchester’s Hallé Orchestra, the prodigious composer and producer will perform an exclusive orchestral collaboration beneath the Lovell Telescope to open bluedot 2023.

Thursday opening concert tickets will be available as a standalone ticket or an add-on to weekend tickets from 10am, Friday 11 November.

One of the most innovative figures on the contemporary music scene, Richter’s ground-breaking work with synthesisers and computers to full symphony orchestra encompasses solo albums, ballets, concert hall performances, film and television series, video art installations and theatre.

A pioneering composer and producer, Richter’s work has resulted in numerous accolades, with his 2004 album “The Blue Notebooks” chosen by The Guardian as one of the best classical works of the century.

Richter has also written prolifically for film and television, including Taboo – gaining him an Emmy nomination – and the Oscar-winning Arrival by Denis Villeneuve. His latest recorded project, The New Four Seasons, was released in 2022 marking ten years of his Vivaldi Recomposed project, re-recording the piece with period instruments.

Richter’s performance promises to be an incredible opening to the festival and a bluedot highlight for years to come, with the full bluedot 2023 line-up to be revealed in the new year.

bluedot 2023 is the sixth chapter of the unique festival, named Best Medium Festival at the UK Festival Awards, which has seen headline performances from the likes of Björk and The Halle Orchestra, New Order, The Chemical Brothers, Mogwai, Groove Armada, Kraftwerk 3-D, Pixies, The Flaming Lips, Underworld and Jean-Michel Jarre, plus high-profile talks from Tim Peake, Brian Cox, Helen Sharman and Richard Dawkins.

Weekend tickets for bluedot 2023 are on sale now from discoverthebluedot.com, starting from just £20 deposit.
