Stalwart of the Manchester skate scene, Projekts Skatepark has teamed up with popular DIY events programmers Sour Grapes Records to host a series of alternative live gigs that will officially launch this Friday (16th September).

A popular venue for the local community, Projekts is an independently run skate park that offers regular skating classes and a safe space for Manchester’s huge community of skaters to perfect their craft. As well as this, the venue houses a cafe and shop serving high quality food and drinks in one of the most unique settings in the city.

The new ‘WAX’ evenings will see skaters welcomed down to the park to skate alongside pros behind some live bands, creating a unique crowd and skate experience. The event isn’t just for those trained in the sport, though, as the venue will house a private bar for guests who are attending to celebrate quality touring garage rock, psych and post punk bands in an unforgettable gig environment.

The series begins this Friday September 16th with Californian psych group Hoover iii. A band with music produced by Ty Segall and released via The Reverberation Appreciation Society, they stop by the UK after a string of US and European dates including the fuzz rock mecca that is Desert Daze Festival.

The band originally began as a solo drum machine project, but have evolved into a hair swinging six member ensemble that have gone on to develop their own brand of space psych rock. They’ll be joined on the evening by Brazilian-born, Italian/English raised Wax Machine and Farfisa, a four-piece fuzzy psychedelic band from Manchester.

Taking place smack bang in the middle of Freshers week, the event is expecting a strong number of attendees! Tickets are available to buy now for £10 plus booking fee, or skaters can bag a space at the event for half the price.

This inaugural date will also act as a foundation for Projekts and Sour Grapes Records to build a regular video series from.
