The multi-award winning Frog and Bucket is the longest running comedy club outside of London and approaching its 20th birthday which will be celebrated with a mind blowing line up on Wednesday 16th April! The Frog and Bucket is a dedicated comedy club and first opened on the 25th April 1994 on Newton Street in a small pub. As its popularity grew it moved venue to the old top Yates on Oldham Street, on the corner of Great Ancoats Street.
The Frog and Bucket is one of the original Northwest comedy clubs and is one of the strongest supporters of grass roots comedy. Many comics started their careers here including Jason Manford, John Bishop and Johnny Vegas.
Originally opened by David Perkin, it is now his daughter Jessica who runs the day- to-day operation of the business. With the success of the brand we have been able to expand with a new dedicated comedy club in Preston along with monthly roadshows. We have also taken the roadshow all over the Northwest in the past.
We hold a weekly amateur night on a Monday called “Beat the Frog” This gives the chance for amateurs to get up to five minutes on stage with up to ten acts a night. With lots of feedback we then are able to develop them with more open spots. Once they are ready they are offered an 8 spot on a Monday and then progress to a 10 spot on a Thursday. Which leads us to “Big Value Thursday”, it does what it says on the tin. You get 5 acts on this night for fantastic value at only £9, definitely worth going out on a school night. Friday and Saturday brings you “Barrel of Laughs”, this is our flagship show and hosts established comedians from the national and international circuit, the weekends get super busy and so it’s advisable to book your seats in advance. We also hold monthly and touring shows, including “Laughing Cows”, “So You Think Your Funny?” and one man shows from Richard Herring, Sarah Millican, Al Murray and many more. Comedy appeals to a huge range of people and the Frog and Bucket is perfect for this!
Food can be enjoyed while watching the show and the menu ranges from sharer platters to pizzas, burgers, steaks and fish and chips and the bar is open all night! Once the show finishes at the weekend, you can enjoy our classic disco, with music from the 60’s through to present day, who doesn’t love a good bop?
